Le réseau CANDHIS (Caractérisation de l'Agitation Naturelle des Côtes à des fins d'Ingénierie et de Sécurité) déploie 19 bouées houlographes sur le littoral français. Chaque bouée mesure en continu la hauteur significative des vagues (Hm0), la hauteur maximale (Hmax), la période pic (Tp), la direction de la houle et la température de l'eau. Ces données sont essentielles pour le surf, la navigation côtière et la sécurité maritime.
